As a brand new rescue, before we even had our license 24 hours, I called all the local shelters to see if there were any immediate needs that our rescue could assist with.
When I spoke to the coordinator at the Wichita Animal Shelter, she told me that there were a litter of black kittens behind her now that were scheduled to be euthanized at 1 PM that day. I looked down at the time on my phone, saw that it was a little after 11 AM and let her know I was going to get around, and head that way immediately.
It is an hour drive to the Wichita Animal Shelter and so I pulled into the parking lot at 12:52 PM with 8 minutes to spare. Ready for our first official rescue transfer, we picked up 3 very sick black kittens that day and Coco was one of those kittens.
When I first got her, I rushed her to the Vet who performed several life-saving measures to give her the best possible chance of survival. Then I took her home, followed the Vet’s instructions for at-home care, and physically sat her and her sibling in front of their fresh food and water, multiple times a day, until they developed the strength to walk there themselves.
Not once did they play with one another, and I was alarmed by this so I watched every day and prayed for a miracle. And about a week later, I woke up and went into the room where they were sleeping, and I was so relieved to see Coco was walking actively and was well enough to begin playing with her sister. I am so thankful that they did not get euthanized that day and the world is a better place for it.

About Coco
Coco is a perfect name for this unique black house panther because she is a wonderfully friendly, fun-loving and adventurous kitten. She gets along well with other animals and humans too, but is a little shy about loud noises and she is looking for a new family that will appreciate her inspirational journey.
Coco was rescued from the shelter 8 minutes before she was scheduled to be euthanized. It is truly a miracle that Coco survived and is here with us today. Coco’s journey is a wonderful testament to how incredible and powerful love really is, and a reminder that we should always lead with love.
She needs a family that will love her as deeply and unconditionally as she loves. She is an incredible blessing and I am so glad she survived and is here with us. If you want a family pet that will brighten up your household and will become an incredible new addition to your loving family, Coco is all those things and more.
